One important accessory that you will want to get with your new treadmill is a good treadmill mat. If you are not sure of what a treadmill mat is, then let’s take a minute and examine this.

A treadmill is going to vibrate when in use and since it is sitting directly on your floor, there will be loud noises and constant vibrations each time your treadmill is used if there are not proper mats under them.

These mats will maintain your floors and carpets, minimize vibrations, and reduce the annoying noises that may come from using your treadmill. More times than not these mates are made out of some sort of rubber or cellular vinyl type of byproduct.

A treadmill mat of good quality can deliver many benefits to your treadmill and your floor. The first is that it does protect your flooring and carpet.

As expensive or inexpensive as your treadmill may have been, chances are that your hardwood floor or carpet under the treadmill will cost three or four times than your treadmill to replace if damaged.

These mats also aid in reducing the numbers of dust and carpet fibers in the air. Without the mat, the vibrations discharged by the treadmill will dislodge any loose fibers in the carper, which include the dust that might be tucked away within the carpet.

One of the biggest benefits from using these mats is that it has the potential to prolong the life of your treadmill by dampening the vibrations that are emitted from the usage of the treadmill.

The vibrations caused from your treadmill can possibly make your treadmill work harder and cause a shaking to it that will gradually over time reduce the shelf life of your machine. They are very effective at reducing the amount of noise that is created when your treadmill is on.

If you have ever heard a treadmill without a mat under it, it might sound kind of like an airplane taking off, it is that loud.

Treadmill mats are relatively inexpensive for the amount of headache and money that can be saved in the long term from them. The prices of these mats is somewhere between $25 and $50 depending on what type you decide that you are going to purchase.

This is a small amount to considering the total amount that could be saved in the long term from not protecting your machine and having to purchase another.

There is no denying it, Reebok treadmills are a well recognized brand in the fitness equipment industry. All around the world the Reebok name is synonymous with quality sporting products and in the case of Reebok treadmills it is no different.

Interestingly enough the Reebok treadmills are not produced by Reebok as some might think, but instead Icon Health and Fitness, the largest manufacturer of exercise equipment in the world. By teaming up with Icon, Reebok have been able to put their name on some quality treadmills without the huge costs of designing and producing the machines themselves.

Priced at around $1,000-$1,500 they are aimed at the general home gym user or as Reebok say “designed for clubs, made for the home”. Two of the best value treadmills in the range, the Reebok 5500C treadmill and the Reebok 3500C treadmill, have good quality components like a 2-2.5HP motor for a powerful workout and a 20 x 60 inch treadmill belt so you can really stretch out.

The only reservation I have is that a respected treadmill authority stated “there are some serious compromises in component construction” of the Reebok treadmills. When a leading fitness industry expert has this to say about the Reebok range then you sit up and take notice.

Also sometimes you might see a commercial treadmill carrying the Reebok brand name. These treadmills are not made by Icon so keep this in mind if you are looking around. Advantages

Reebok treadmills are well priced for the specification that their treadmills offer. They are also backed up by one of the biggest names in the sporting world. You can be sure that it is not a fly by night outfit.

Disadvantages

The negative comment on the component construction from a leading treadmill authority really concerns me. Also the fact that Reebok is not a treadmill specialist. I prefer to buy and use equipment from companies that make their own equipment and specialize in the fitness equipment industry.

Recommendation

For those die hard Reebok enthusiasts, who am I to tell you not to buy a Reebok treadmill. You cant fault their reputation.

However, personally I wouldnt consider Reebok treadmills. I feel there are a number of better, more fitness equipment specific brands (check out my treadmill ratings and treadmill reviews) to choose from.

If you are thinking of spending this much money you should seriously consider comparing different brands and machines before making a decision.

Star Trac treadmill is the answer to a commercial quality and solid treadmill. Star Trac treadmill is the ideal choice for heavy commercial use and for intense training. Star Trac treadmill models are of commercial quality and built to run or walk on for numerous hours per day.

Star Trac treadmills are widely used in commercial gyms across the world. Start Trac treadmills are one of the most expensive treadmills available in the treadmill industry. If price is commensurate of quality than Star Trac treadmills is one of the best because of their high costs.

Start Trac is one of the most recognized brands in the treadmill industry. According to their sales literature, more than 2 million people in over 65 countries use Star Trac treadmills every day at home and in fitness facilities.

Star Trac offers five treadmill models for use in exercise clubs and training facilities - Elite, Pro, Pro S and TR4500. Star trac provides just one treadmill model TR901 for home usage. Star Trac treadmill designs are multi-featured and mostly targeted towards the commercial fitness market.

Star Trac treadmills are generally more expensive ranging in price from about $3600 for the TR901 to over $7800 for the Pro.

Remanufactured models of Star Trac treadmills like the Star Trac 2000, 4000 and 1800 are available at considerably lower prices from fitness equipment retailers.

Star Trac treadmill models are innovative and appealing in fitness and training features. Climbers will appreciate the Aero bar on Pro S Star Trac treadmill model. Runners will appreciate the soft cushioning system in Star Trac treadmills.

Star Trac treadmills are well built. Reliability and low maintenance are key features of Start Trac Treadmills. Star Trac dose not really make treadmills for home use. Only one model of Start Trac treadmill in the product range of six is aimed at the home user.

The TR4500 model of Star Trac treadmill provides readouts on calories, laps, heart rate, incline, time, distance, and offers an assortment of programmed workout options. The Star Trac Elite treadmill allows users to plug into popular entertainment systems and has two fans for comfort. The TR901 model of Star Trac treadmill incorporates features like incline that adjusts to user heart rate, impact absorption system, 250 workout programs with data storage up to five users and powerful 2HP motor with quick start.

Majority of people cannot afford to buy a Star Trac treadmill due to its high cost. Few people are in a position to buy a Star Trac treadmill.

Undoubtedly the most disappointing feature of Star Trac treadmills is the warranty on parts. As compared to Landice treadmills or even Smooth treadmills, Star Trac treadmills do not offer warranty that has a longer coverage period. Star Trac offers warranties based on use of their treadmill models, not equipment model.

Star Trac treadmills have a different warranty policy. Rather than having a set warranty with each particular treadmill, Star Trac provides warranty cover based on the amount and type of usage. Star Trac treadmills bought for home usage have a warranty period of 3 years on parts. The same treadmill if bought for heavy commercial use provides a warranty period of only 2 years.

Star Trac treadmills meant for home usage have a long lasting motor as compared to ones used for commercial means. Star Trac treadmills have smaller consoles.

Star Trac TR4500 treadmill, Star trac Pro treadmill, Star Trac Pro S treadmill, Star Trac Sport treadmill and Star Trac TR901 treadmill are the models from Star Trac.

There are benefits to the use of treadmills as part of your exercise program. A treadmill provides a wonderful cardiovascular workout for your heart, your lungs, and your circulation. There is low impact on your joints, which makes it easier and less painful to workout. This is an excellent workout for pregnant women. Because it is low impact and cardio-vascular in nature it builds endurance which no doubt helps during labor.

Treadmills are easy to use and they are not that expensive especially the lower end models. The use of a treadmill will help you lose weight and body fat. A non-physical benefit of a treadmill can be that they don’t take up a lot of space. Oh there are some that could use a whole room but if space is the issue then you can find manual treadmills that are powered by your movement only that fold. Really do some research and talk to professionals about which one might be appropriate.

It is best to compare different models. What kind of features are you looking for on your treadmill? Here are some things to look at when you are comparing various models. It can be overwhelming because all you really want is to work out. The type of motor is important as it can affect the size of your machine. The belt trackers are the most important things to look at.

It is the placement of the running belt and the type of movement of the belt as you work out. You want a belt that moves smoothly over the rollers as opposed to being jerky. Did you ever see a check out belt in the market that starts and jumps and then starts and jumps again? If the movement on your treadmill is like that there can be more impact on your joints than necessary and injury can result.

The length and width of the belt is something else to look at. A belt that is not long enough can cause you to ‘run-off’ the end of the belt. A belt that is too narrow will not necessarily support your stance. Try out the machine if possible or one very much like it if at all possible.

The type of incline and the percentage of the incline will affect your workout and the impact on your joints. Many treadmills have adjustable inclines so that as you progress you can increase the slant to where you are walking like you would on a steep hill. The speed, how fast the belt moves, should be adjustable as well. What is the minimum and maximum speed? Knowing this will help you plan your workout and make it more effective.

One of the features you should look for on your treadmill monitor console is a heart rate monitor. You can make your workout more beneficial if you know your resting heart rate and your target heart rate is the highest number you reach to get maximum benefits from your work out. The console should also display your speed, your time and the distance you have covered.

It is imperative that you learn to properly run your treadmill before attempting to use it. The control panel should be easy to read. Can the control panel be used without the software program? You do not want a noisy treadmill. While there will be some noise, you don’t want the noise to be overwhelming.

Is the noise level acceptable for you? How thick is the belt? A thin belt could wear over time so you would want a belt that is thick enough to last for a long time. Some belts will begin to stretch. In order to help make your treadmill last be sure you regularly check that the belt hasn’t stretched or cracked anywhere. Make sure the monitor is functioning properly.

Other things to consider are how heavy the machine is. Some delivery companies will only bring it to your door, it’s then up to you to get it in the house and set it up. How it looks is important because if you don’t like how it looks in your home you will be less likely to use it. Will it be easy to store when not in use? Most likely it will occupy the same space when it’s not in use so you may want to consider (before you bring it home) if this will be acceptable.

Your treadmill should be placed away from walls to prevent injury from falls. It should be about eight feet away from any ledge, wall, or windows. All wires and the power supply should be out of the way of walking areas or taped down to prevent someone from tripping when getting on or off your treadmill.

Here are a few tips on using your new treadmill. Before you get on the belt straddle the belt and make sure it is set at the proper speed. Keep your eyes forward as your eyes will follow your feet. Be sure to stay in the center of the belt to prevent some slips and falls.

Refurbished treadmills are big business. Because treadmills can be so expensive there are many who can not afford to buy a new one. That’s where refurbished treadmills come in. But what exactly are refurbished treadmills?

It’s not just because treadmills are expensive that people are looking to buy some form of second hand, used or refurbished treadmill. It can also be because there is a huge range of treadmills on the market. With a huge range of features.

The aspiring treadmill user is often aware that it is better to start at the lower end of the treadmill market and spend some time getting the feel for exercising on a treadmill.

Although treadmills are some of the most popular items of fitness equipment in the US, they don’t appeal to everyone. Some people can find that they use a treadmill for a while and decide that they prefer some other form of exercise. Sometimes it not another piece of indoor exercise equipment, it’s just that they prefer to exercise outdoors.

So many peo ple will spend a more limited amount of money on a lower end machine and wait until they are happy to upgrade. Others will buy a refurbished treadmill at a much lower price and get a better machine than they would get buying new at the cheapest end of the market.

Not only that, once you have spent some time using a treadmill you will get some feel for the types of features you require in a treadmill. There’s no point in rushing out and buying the most expensive, top of the range model just to find that you don’t use most of the features.

So it makes sense to spend less, get some basic treadmill experience in, and then upgrade to get the exact model you want with the features you need. So you may not need to buy new for your first treadmill anyway, as you may only have it for a year or two.

That’s where refurbished treadmills come in. There are risks in just going out to look for ordinary used treadmills. You don’t know what you are getting. If the motor breaks down the day after you buy i t then it may become an expensive treadmill.

A refurbished treadmill, although usually more expensive than a similar second hand model, is a safer bet, especially in the long term.

So, back to our question, what is a refurbished treadmill?

There is a whole range of “cheaper” treadmills. They can be called refurbished treadmills, factory refurbished treadmills, remanufactured treadmills or just used or second hand treadmills.

Lets dispose of the last two first. Used and second hand treadmills are generally just treadmills that someone has used and wants to sell. You buy them, you take all the risk. Unless you know exactly what to look for when buying a treadmill like this then stay clear. Cheap treadmills like this can certainly be, well, cheap. But risky.

And the others? Generally all the terms mean that the treadmills have been disassembled to some degree and rebuilt, usually with new parts to relace broken or worn out parts. The frame sand blasted, sometimes, and the tread mill resprayed, sometimes. However there can be some differences.

Remanufactured treadmills or refurbished treadmills means just that. Treadmills which have been remanufactured or refurbished as we have described above. It doesn’t tell you WHO remanufactured or refurbished them. Was it the local bicycle mechanic who did it? Often you don’t know.

And what is the difference between refurbished and remanufactured? Generally remanufactured will mean an older machine which needs parts replacing because it is getting more worn out. Refurbished usually means newer machines which may even be only a year or two old and which do not have enough wear to require serious rebuilding.

Better always to look for FACTORY refurbished or remanufactured treadmills. Machines which have gone back to the original factory and been refurbished by qualified technicians. Or else a business which makes a living from remanufacturing or refurbishing treadmills.

This process should involve taking the treadmill ap art, examining all the parts and replacing all broken, worn out or old parts. Before it is reassembled it should be sand blasted and repainted. It should look like a new treadmill, or at least very close to it.

So, things to look for:

1. The age of the treadmill.

2. Who is refurbishing or remanufacturing it.

3. Most importantly, the warranty you get with it.

Why the warranty? Well if it’s a great refurbished treadmill then they ought to recognise this with a great warranty.

No warranty? Stay clear. 60 or 90 days? Better but not perfect.

The longer the warranty, the more confidence you have in the machine. So when you buy, make sure you check out the warranty.

I have just been looking on the net at some refurbished Precor treadmills at my favourite refurbished treadmills merchant. Certainly amongst the refurbished Precor treadmills there is a lower range to choose from than new, but you’d expect that. But there are still plenty of choices. And expect a su bstantial saving off new price.

So if you’re new to treadmills and looking for refurbished Precor treadmills, or any refurbished treadmills for that matter, then there are some good choices available at some substantial savings.

Refurbished treadmills, certainly something to think about for the new treadmill user.

An elliptical workout differs from a treadmill workout in a few ways. Both will give you an aerobic workout but an elliptical trainer will work different muscle groups than a treadmill.

While both are excellent choices, they do have distinct differences. By knowing the difference, you can decide if an elliptical workout, the treadmill workout or even a combination of both works best for you.

Elliptical Workout

When comparing an elliptical workout to a treadmill workout the first thing you will notice is the elliptical trainer has much less impact. This low impact is especially good for people with joint, knee, lower back or hip problems.

An elliptical workout also works the upper and lower body simultaneously which makes your heart rate climb faster than with a treadmill workout. The elliptical trainer works your legs, back, shoulders, chest and your arms making it a total body workout.

Another great feature of an elliptical workout is you can add variety by pedaling backwards. This backward pedaling motion targets your lower body quadricep muscles.

Treadmill Workout

A treadmill workout can also give you an excellent aerobic workout and a lot of people still prefer it to an elliptical workout. If you prefer to run, jog or walk to exercise it’s obviously a smarter choice.

If you are just beginning to workout or just don’t want a total body workout a treadmill workout might be perfect. Most treadmills offer a different intensity level that you can increase as you get more fit.

A treadmill workout provides a different variety over an elliptical workout by allowing you to run, jog or walk on an incline. While it is a less intense workout, it is a great way to burn fat while promoting good cardiovascular health.

Even though treadmills remain the number one piece of fitness equipment sold today, elliptical trainers are quickly becoming very popular. With more and more health clubs adding more elliptical trainer machines, more people will try elliptical workouts.

Both elliptical workouts and treadmill workouts will build bone density, burn fat, promote good cardiovascular health and increase your energy level. The important thing is to workout on a regular basis whether it’s at home or in a gym.

If you are looking to purchase a treadmill or an elliptical trainer, the bottom line is, you usually get what you pay for. There are great values especially online but it just makes sense to get quality equipment that will last.

Whether you prefer a treadmill workout or an elliptical workout choose the one that you feel is right for you. That way you will work out more often, lose more weight and be much healthier.

Vitamaster treadmill is not manufactured or produced any longer. The only way to get a Vitamaster treadmill is to buy a second hand model of it. EBay website is a good option to search for a Vitamaster treadmill. Vitamaster treadmill buyers should consider one point that they are investing in a treadmill that is no longer manufactured. This can put them into costly affairs on repairs especially when parts of the Vitamaster treadmill are very difficult to find.

Vitamaster treadmill or its parts are very difficult to be found. Buying a second hand Vitamaster treadmill is a risk today especially when the scarcity of this model of treadmill and its parts is considered. Vitamaster treadmill and its parts have become harder and harder to be searched or acquired. People before buying a new, second hand or remanufactured Vitamaster treadmill should think twice before making their decision since this model of treadmill and its parts are very rare to be found. This might put more cost overload on them especially when repairs and other services relating the Vitamaster treadmill is concerned.

Users who desire to buy a Vitamaster treadmill should look at getting a warranty with the treadmill. This will enable them to cover their treadmill repairs, maintenance and other services during the warranty period. If something goes wrong with users Vitamaster treadmill then they will be secured during the treadmill warranty period.

The problem with a Vitamaster treadmill is to keep it functioning till the end. The belt and deck of the Vitamaster treadmill wears out over the time and as the user usage increases. Now as the belt and deck wears out the treadmill friction rate increases. Vitamaster treadmill controller works extremely hard to keep the requirement t a steady speed. To get more speeds on a Vitamaster treadmill users put a Super board with PWM technology. This also makes the Vitamaster treadmill motor run without any irritating noise. This also upgrades the Vitamaster treadmill controller to employ about 1/3 amperage which usual controllers use.

Performing workouts on a Vitamaster treadmill is not very easy. Vitamaster treadmill means getting in shape with real sweat out while performing workouts. Vitamaster treadmill is not about humoring users fancy. However, particular Vitamaster treadmills are not produced for such purposes. Getting a second hand Vitamaster treadmill is not a bright idea. This might invite trouble and problems in the future run of the treadmill. Even treadmill dealers find it difficult to hunt a Vitamaster treadmill or any parts relating the same.

Instead of buying a second hand Vitamaster treadmill users should opt and look for a first hand model of this treadmill. Second hand model of the Vitamaster treadmill can be very harmful and may cause injuries during workouts. Moreover, the second hand model of a Vitamaster treadmill might not give users satisfactory results that they are looking for.

Users may be able to find a Vitamaster treadmill at a garage sale or second hand sports store. Users can also look on resellers like EBay to search and purchase a Vitamaster treadmill.

Users should consider the following information before finalizing their purchase on a Vitamaster treadmill. Users while buying a second hand Vitamaster treadmill should select or pick one that has a warranty for some good period. This will cover the Vitamaster treadmill if something goes wrong during the warranty period.

If users pick a Vitamaster treadmill that is still in production then spare parts are easy to get and cheap to fix if something goes wrong. Another option is to buy a Vitamaster treadmill that has been remanufactured. Usually old or used treadmill products sell for half the price of a new treadmill. Most companies disassemble the equipment, sandblast the frame to strip off imperfections, rebuild the mechanical and electrical systems with new parts during remanufacturing a Vitamaster treadmill. The Vitamaster treadmill is then put back together and repainted. Most companies have some type of quality control to test the Vitamaster treadmill before it is resold. Depending on the company, the frame of Vitamaster treadmill may be the only old part.

Vitamaster treadmill production doesnt take place any longer. Users who desire a Vitamaster treadmill either have to purchase it in second hand form or purchase one that has been remanufactured. Users just need to understand that while buying a Vitamaster treadmill they might get into some costly and difficult repair services on a treadmill that is no longer manufactured and whose parts are very difficult to be found.

An interesting phenomenon is happening in the treadmill market these days: a lot of home treadmills are being called commercial grade treadmills. This can be very confusing for the treadmill buyer.

Whats the difference between a commercial grade treadmill a home treadmill, and an actual commercial treadmill?

First of all there are 2 main categories of treadmills: commercial and home treadmills.

Commercial treadmills differ from home treadmills in that they are made for harsher environments, like the gym or health club, and they are built to withstand frequent use. Because of this they are built with a much higher grade of components and subsequently cost more.

For example, most commercial treadmills come with a 4 ply treadbelt instead of the 2 ply treadbelt standard to most home treadmills. They also usually come with a much higher powered motor, built with heavier duty commercial parts.

Commercial treadmill prices are much higher and many of them start at $4000+ whereas home treadmills can range from $400 to $3000.

Heres where it can get confusing: Although there used to be more of a difference between commercial and home treadmills, the line is blurring as more and more people buy commercial grade treadmills for their homes.

Because of this, brands like Landice put out 2 versions of their treadmill lines: the Limited (or LTD) series of treadmills - built for high end home or light commercial use, and the Club series- built for heavy club or gym environments.

And former commercial treadmill brands like Sole, (who have been supplying treadmills to hotels like Hilton for years) are now making their treadmills available to the home market - for a home treadmill price.

These treadmills can truly be called commercial grade meaning they could be used as a commercial treadmill but is mainly suited for the high end home gym.

However Ive noticed that even the cheaper brands of home treadmills are now starting to call their higher end treadmills commercial grade.

This doesnt necessarily mean it is suitable for a health club or even a high end home gym. In my opinion, it simply means that the treadmill was built with heavier grade components than other treadmills in that brands line up. It may still be a great buy if you like that brand name.

However, if I wanted to buy a commercial grade treadmill for my home I would not choose these cheaper brand names - but thats just my preference.

Bottom line? When looking at commercial treadmills for a health club or gym, consider the brand. Make sure it is a well known commercial brand with a solid reputation. Some examples are Landice, LifeFitness and Star Trac.

When looking for a higher end commercial grade treadmill for your home gym, consider a lighter version of a commercial treadmill model or a home treadmill brand that is known for higher end machines. It will serve you just as well and cost you thousands less. For more examples of top rated commercial and commercial grade treadmills visit:

http://www.treadmillreview.net/Article_Commercial_Treadmills.html,

One last note: Keep in mind that commercial treadmills take up a lot more space than home treadmills and theyre also much heavier. They may not fold so make sure you have several strong lifters when you have the treadmill delivered.

Good luck and have fun!
